Nigerian comedian, Deeone, has openly criticized fellow content creator Nons Miraj for her recent act of generosity toward a viral fish pie vendor. Instead of providing essential business capital to support the vendor’s growing venture, she chose to gift him a car, sparking a significant debate on social media regarding the best way to assist small business owners.
The controversy began when Nons Miraj, in a widely circulated video that garnered considerable attention, surprised the struggling vendor with a brand-new car. This gesture was intended to help him expand his business, as she sought to provide a means of transportation that could aid in his operations. However, the decision was met with mixed reactions from the public.[/p>
While many applauded Nons Miraj for her generosity, Deeone took to social media to question the practicality of the gift.
In his post, Deeone argued that a car might not be the most effective way to help the vendor grow his business. According to him, giving him a lump sum as business capital would have been a more strategic investment, allowing the vendor to scale his operations, improve product quality, or diversify his business offerings.
He further stated that maintaining a car comes with added costs such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance, which could potentially become a financial burden for someone just trying to make ends meet.
“This is a nice gesture even though she does not owe the guy anything. She even paid rent and put him in a nice apartment. But buying this guy a car is not helping him and in fact a financial wickedness. He doesn’t have a system yet to bring in money,” he said partly.
