Afrobeat star, David Adeleke, widely recognized by his stage name Davido, has officially declared his support for the PDP's governorship candidate, Ighodalo, in the upcoming Edo governorship election.
Taking to Instagram, Davido shared a snapshot of a Nigerian newspaper's front page featuring Ighodalo, along with the caption, “The next governor of my mother’s homeland.” The singer’s public backing has created a buzz among his fans and political spectators.
Although Davido is originally from Ede in Osun State, his mother is from Edo, which brings a personal connection to this endorsement. This familial link has added weight to his support, further amplifying the conversation across social media platforms.

Interestingly, Davido’s statement coincided with the arrival of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Benin City, signaling a show of unity and broader political interest.
Governor Adeleke was part of a delegation of PDP governors attending a high-profile event for Ighodalo, underlining the growing national momentum and prominent political backing for the PDP candidate.
