The footage, first shared by X (formerly Twitter) user Dr Penking, captured the moment and immediately sparked outrage. He captioned the post: “Davido smoking weed in front of police Yet they’ll tell you no one is above the law.”

Since then, the clip has gone viral across social media platforms, drawing thousands of comments and fueling conversations about double standards in law enforcement in Nigeria. While some fans defended Davido’s lifestyle, others condemned the act and accused authorities of selective justice.

One X user, @iam_lexie_b, called out Dr Penking saying: “But you don tweet this thing before now!” However, Dr Penking doubled down, responding: “I will tweet it as many times as possible until our law enforcement start holding everyone to the same standards.”

Adding his opinion, another user, Saint, wrote: “LMAO, never been a fan of that line. Isn’t the law under those who made them and can change them? Meaning lawmakers (wealth) are above the law.”

Similarly, Ovbiola criticized the imbalance, saying: “Once ya get money for Africa ya ball hard and ya fart on the dam law. Law in Africa especially Nigeria na for poor people ✌🏿”

Another user, Ayden, expressed disappointment: “Nigerians clamoring for a better Nigeria but look at them defending the police because it’s Davido. Na we be our own problem walai.”

Abelprizy added humor with a sharp jab: “W33d is stronger than Nigerian law now. Highness no dey fear face but niga law dey look face before e hold person.”

Meanwhile, Sodbill urged others to move on: “Leave the boy alone. Find something else. Nigeria problem no be the artist or what type of life they choose. Focus on your own life.”

Highlighting the double standards, Johnson stressed: “Some people like him & many others who are political celebrities are above the law in Nigeria. If any poor man mistakenly smoke w££d in front of the Police or NDLEA officer, his life would never remain the same again!👌”

Echoing this concern, Godwin_ore stated: “Davido openly smokes weed in front of police officers and nothing happens. Yet ordinary people are arrested for the same thing. They say no one is above the law but clearly some people are. I stand with Davido, but let’s stop pretending the system is fair.”

The incident has once again brought the spotlight on issues of privilege, celebrity power, and selective justice in Nigeria, with fans and critics split between admiration for Davido’s carefree lifestyle and outrage over the message it sends about accountability.
