David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, a prominent Nigerian afrobeats star, recently made a surprising revelation during his guest appearance on the widely followed Drink Champs podcast.
In an episode hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, Davido shared an intriguing aspect of his upbringing, disclosing that he had no awareness of his family's wealth and fame during his childhood, only discovering it during his teenage years.
During the podcast interview, the acclaimed musician revealed that it was not until he turned 13 years old that he became cognizant of his father's affluence. He recounted a significant event that acted as a catalyst for his realization, namely an explosion that damaged their previous residence and necessitated their immediate relocation to a new and opulent property.
Recalling the moment that brought about his awareness, Davido stated:
"As much money as I had been seeing, all these rich people here and there, I didn't know we had money until I was 13."
He went on to share a specific anecdote about his father, Chief Adedeji Adeleke, driving a humble Honda Accord despite being a billionaire. It was the aftermath of the explosion, which devastated numerous houses including their own, that prompted Davido's realization of his family's financial standing.
Continuing his narrative, Davido recounted how his mother informed him about their new residence following the incident. He expressed his astonishment upon arriving at an extravagant mansion located in another part of town, a property that his father had secretly been constructing. The sheer size and opulence of the new house served as a profound revelation for Davido, cementing his understanding of his family's substantial wealth.
Sharing his thoughts on the experience, Davido remarked:
"We started driving, and when we got there, it was mind-blowing. A massive crib. He still resides there to this day. I was in awe and asked my mom what was happening. That was when I began to realize that my dad was truly wealthy."
