The Ikorodu Magistrate Court has officially directed that DNA tests be conducted on Liam Aloba, the son of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. This ruling has added a new chapter to the ongoing family dispute surrounding the late artist’s legacy, with paternity issues now at the center of the controversy.
The order was given on Tuesday by Magistrate Adefisoye Sonuga while presiding over an application submitted by the late singer’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba. Joseph had approached the court seeking a definitive paternity confirmation for young Liam, a matter that has generated much public speculation and heated debate across social media platforms. Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, was listed as the respondent in the case.
In his court filing, Joseph Aloba emphasized that the issue of paternity must be laid to rest in order to avoid further complications within the family and in the public space. He noted that uncertainty surrounding his grandson’s paternity could not be ignored, especially given the sensitive and emotional nature of the situation.
He wrote in his deposition: “There remains uncertainty regarding the paternity of Master Liam Aloba and given the sensitivity of the matter, it is imperative that the paternity be conclusively settled.” According to him, only a verified medical test could bring clarity and closure to the issue.
While delivering the ruling, Magistrate Sonuga ordered: “The court hereby directs that two separate DNA tests be conducted in accredited and recognized hospitals, one in Nigeria and the other outside Nigeria, to ensure accuracy and eliminate any possibility of bias.”
The court also went further to emphasize transparency in the process, stating: “Both parties or their chosen representatives must be physically present at the time of sample collection to guarantee fairness and accountability.”
This development comes months after the tragic passing of Mohbad in September 2023, which has since left unresolved questions and tensions within his family and fan base. The issue of his son’s paternity has been one of the most debated aspects of the saga, sparking mixed reactions among Nigerians who have closely followed the unfolding events.
Following the ruling, the matter was adjourned until November 11, 2025, for further proceedings, where the results of the DNA tests are expected to play a significant role in determining the next steps in the case.
The outcome of this legal process is anticipated to bring clarity not only to the Aloba family but also to millions of fans who continue to seek justice and closure regarding the late singer’s life and legacy.
