[p]Nigerian singer, Chukwuka EKweani, professionally known as Ckay, has ignited an online debate with his remarks about the impact of fellow musicians Runtown and Tekno on the Nigerian music industry.
Ckay asserts that the music of Tekno and Runtown paved the way for artists like himself, Oxlade, and Rema to showcase their unique brand of Afrobeats music on a global scale.
He believes that although many people are aware of this fact, they have been reluctant to openly acknowledge it. However, Ckay feels that there will come a time when it will be necessary to discuss and appreciate their contributions.
Taking to his Twitter account on June 16, Ckay shared his thoughts, stating,
“One day we’re going to sit down and talk about how Tekno and Runtown’s music paved the way for songs like 'Love Nwantiti,' 'Emiliana,' 'Ku Lo Sa,' and 'Calm Down'..."
