Legendary Nollywood actor, Chiwetalu Agu, has firmly dismissed fresh rumours of his death, after false reports spread widely across social media claiming that he had passed away. The 67-year-old star, admired for his comic delivery, proverbs, and unique expressions in movies, clarified in a heartfelt message that he remains alive, strong, and in good health.
Taking to his official Instagram page on Friday, the veteran actor assured his fans, colleagues, and family members not to panic over the false report. He emphasized that those peddling fake news about his death were doing so for attention and malicious reasons, stressing that he still has many years ahead to enjoy life, family, and his craft in the movie industry.

Chiwetalu Agu clears air in viral video
In a now-viral video, Agu, dressed in his traditional attire, boldly introduced himself with his chieftaincy title while strongly rejecting the rumours. He declared: “Chief Chiwetalu Agu, okenmiri n’ezoru Oha 1 of Etiti Amokwe, Enugu State, is not going to die anytime soon. Instead, I will be the one to bury my enemies. Na who dig pit go fall inside. Na who dig grave go fall inside.”
The actor further revealed his future hopes, saying that one of his greatest desires is to carry his grandchildren in good health whenever his children are ready. He described the rumours of his death as both hurtful and disrespectful, warning those who thrive on such fabrications to desist before facing legal action.
Agu blasts spreaders of fake news
Agu expressed disappointment at how some Nigerians quickly believe and circulate unverified reports online. He insisted that if the false claims had been published by a recognized platform or established media house, he would have sued for defamation of character and damages. He added that bloggers who publish such content without verification are only chasing clout at the expense of others’ reputations.
The veteran also reminded Nigerians that this was not the first time he had been falsely declared dead. He recalled being a victim of similar hoaxes in the past, noting that many Nollywood celebrities like Pete Edochie, Olu Jacobs, and others have also been subjects of death rumours, which were later debunked. Agu described the recurring trend as disturbing, disrespectful, and evidence of poor media responsibility in Nigeria.
