Grammy-winning Nigerian musician, Burna Boy, has garnered a remarkable seven nominations at the upcoming 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards, solidifying his position as a global music powerhouse.
The self-proclaimed African Giant shares the spotlight with DJ Khaled, both securing the third-highest number of nominations. This distinction places them just behind the leading nominees, Drake, with an impressive nine nominations, and Cardi B and 21 Savage, who have each received a remarkable 12 nominations.
Burna Boy's historic feat includes being the first African artist ever nominated in the prestigious Artiste of the Year category at the BET Hip-Hop Awards. In this fiercely competitive category, he will contend with heavyweight talents such as Kendrick Lamar, J.Cole, 21 Savage, Drake, Cardi B, and more.
Additionally, Burna Boy's nominations encompass Song of the Year for his hit "Sittin’ On Top Of The World" featuring 21 Savage, Best Hip-Hop Video for the same track, Best Collaboration for the acclaimed song, Best Live Performer, Lyricist of the Year, and Hustler of the Year.
It's worth noting that this year marks a unique moment in the BET Hip-Hop Awards history. Since the inception of the Best International Flow category in 2019, this is the first year without a Nigerian rapper receiving a nomination. Instead, artists from other African countries, including Ghana's Black Sherif, Zambia's Sampa The Great, and South African rappers K.O and AKA, have been recognized in this category.
The highly anticipated 2023 BET Hip-Hop Awards are scheduled to be recorded in the vibrant city of Atlanta on Tuesday, October 3, and will make their premiere on BET one week later, on Tuesday, October 10, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Music enthusiasts and fans of Burna Boy are eagerly awaiting this momentous event.
