Talented Afro-fusion artist Daniel Benson, widely known as BNXN, has echoed Burna Boy's contentious remark that many Nigerian musicians lack "substance" in their music.
In a recent interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Burna Boy stirred controversy by implying that afrobeats lacks lyrical depth and is essentially empty.
During an Instagram live session, BNXN affirmed Burna Boy's sentiment, emphasizing that only a minority of artists create music with genuine "substance."
BNXN stated, "I connect so much with Burna because he's different. When you listen to him and compare to others, you can tell he's doing his own thing. Same goes for me. What we're doing here, you won't find it anywhere else. I promise."
He continued, "Only a few of us artists are genuine, infusing proper substance and meaningful content into our music. Watching Burna's interview, I realized why he got misinterpreted. What you don't understand will confuse you."
Addressing the controversy, BNXN expressed his lack of concern with Burna Boy's statement, except for the omission that he's also part of the "afrobeats" scene.
