Apostle Johnson Suleman, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries, has sparked widespread discussion online after offering candid advice to young men regarding whom they should prioritize supporting financially and emotionally in life. During a recent sermon that quickly went viral across various social media platforms, Suleman advised that men focus on helping other men rather than women, a statement that has since drawn mixed reactions from followers and critics alike.

In explaining his perspective, Suleman emphasized that in his personal experience, men who support other men tend to build stronger, more dependable networks, fostering partnerships that are less prone to unnecessary complications or scandals. He acknowledged that while some women are appreciative and God-fearing, offering support to them can sometimes involve risks or misunderstandings. According to him, men are generally more reliable when it comes to mutual support, loyalty, and trustworthiness.

Why you should help more men than women

Speaking directly to his congregants, Suleman said: “As a young man, let me give you some counsel; help more males than females. ‘Aah papa, are you against the females?’ No, let the females help themselves. Do you know why? When you help a man, you have a team.

“When you help a lady, wait for a scandal. Not all of them, maybe ten per cent… but most times you stand a better chance helping men like you. Men are generally loyal and will remember your support, while helping women sometimes comes with unforeseen complications.”

Suleman stands by his opinion

Despite anticipating criticism for his remarks, Suleman maintained that his advice stems from real-life experiences and is not intended to provoke controversy or garner public approval. He insisted that he was speaking from the heart, offering guidance based on lessons he has learned over time. “I know this statement is going to go somehow but I don’t care, I am speaking from my experience. This is my opinion and I am entitled to it,” he stated firmly, reaffirming his stance on the matter.

Social media reactions

Suleman’s statement quickly ignited a wave of reactions on social media, with opinions divided between support and criticism. Many applauded his practical advice, agreeing that men are often more appreciative of help and more likely to build strong, reciprocal relationships. Others condemned his remarks, arguing that they reinforce harmful gender stereotypes and dismiss the challenges women face in society. Some users also emphasized that support should not be determined by gender alone but by character and circumstances.
