Former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, embroiled in controversy, has regained his freedom after spending 27 months in the Kuje Custodial Centre in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Kyari, who previously headed the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), was incarcerated on February 14, 2022, following his apprehension by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) over alleged ties to an international drug syndicate.

The news of his release was disclosed by Adamu Duza, the spokesperson for the FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Duza confirmed that Kyari met the conditions for his bail, leading to his release from detention.

“DCP Kyari has fulfilled his bail requirements and has been released today,” the spokesperson informed Punch.
