A yet-to-be-identified man has been electrocuted while attempting to steal transformer cables at Government Secondary School Owerri, Imo State .
According to the school security man , Mr. Iwu, the man likely gained access to the school late at night by jumping over the fence to reach the transformer, which had been donated to the school by the 1970 class of the Old Boys Association.

Mr. Iwu speculated that the incident occurred around 1 am when the electricity was restored by the electricity company .
The lifeless body of the man was discovered the next morning inside the transformer, which was surrounded by barbed wires on the left side of the school entrance gate.
Reacting to the incident, the Principal of the school, Mr. Chukwujindu Anyikwa, reported the matter to the Secondary Education Management Board (SEMB) and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC), both of whom visited the scene.
The school authority was advised to contact the Police Spokesman, Henry Okoye, who directed them to the DPO Shell Camp Police Station.
After making an entry at the Police Station, they were instructed to go to the Federal University Teaching Hospital Owerri mortuary with a Police report, where the body was later evacuated by mortuary attendants with an ambulance.
When contacted, the PPRO of Imo State Command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident and recommended that the school engage more security personnel, especially at night.
