Kano's new Governor, Abba Yusuf, rejects predecessor Ganduje's seat

A dramatic scene unfolded during the handover ceremony in Kano state on May 29. The newly appointed Governor of the North-West state, Abba Kabir Yusuf, made a strong statement by refusing to sit on the seat previously used by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje. As Governor Yusuf was being escorted into the venue, a security operative presented him with a seat reserved for the Governors of Kano state. However, Governor Yusuf declined to sit on that particular seat and chose another one at the event. The rejection of the seat symbolized a clear break from the practices of the previous administration.

In addition to this gesture, Governor Abba Yusuf expressed his intention to launch an investigation into the N241 billion inherited from the tenure of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He criticized his predecessor for deviating from established democratic norms by leaving the state and failing to personally hand over the state government to him. The handover ceremony thus took place amidst a backdrop of tension and an apparent desire for change in Kano state's governance.


At the handover ceremony held today, the new Governor of Kano state vowed to probe the N241 billion inherited from the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He also criticized his predecessor for “departing from established democratic” practice by jetting out of the state and not personally handing over the state government to him.
