A Nigerian man recently shared a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), revealing that a family member asked him to pay the school fees for one of their children, citing the fact that he is childless as the reason for the request.
In his post, the man recounted receiving an unexpected call from this family member, whom he described as someone with whom he rarely communicates. The request left him in utter disbelief, and he expressed his shock by saying, “I just remembered this family member from my mom’s side I don’t even talk to called me to tell me that since I don’t have any kids and don’t pay school fees, why don’t I pay for one of her kids? Stupid woman.”

He went on to mention that after sharing the unusual request with his father, his father was equally shocked and ready to take action, saying, “I told my poppy, and he wanted to go fight.”
As the post began to gain traction online, many concerned and curious users flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts on the situation. Some expressed support for the man, while others raised questions about the audacity of family members to make such requests without any prior relationship or communication.
See some reactions below:
@Nana_Abekah_: “She’s right tho. If you start practicing paying fees now, by the time it’s your own you’ll be used to it.”
@adamszequi: “Wait, what was your reaction though? 😂I’m invested in this story.”
@royal_bobby24: “Someone was asking me for some money. I was already calculating how to move things around a bit when she said, ‘you don’t have children. what do you even use money for?’ Lol. I immediately told her I wasn’t giving her anything and cut the phone.”
@TheLydiaLadej: “Once you start paying for their kids’ school fees or sorting out their expenses, they almost never want you to settle down and face your own family. Once an entitled person, forever an entitled person. They are so going to resent you once you start focusing on your family.”
@im_tolumichael: “Why do some family members do this though? They believe as long as they have the tag ‘family member’, it means access to everything from a fellow family, including those they don’t talk to or know anything about them.”
@Gracebal0: “Reminds of that Chinese dude that k*lled his neighbor for always asking him why he wasn’t married. People need to learn to mind their business.”
