Speaking to the media after his side's commanding 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, Kompany downplayed the doubts surrounding his appointment, calling it “a simple job.”

“I love working with the players, I try to improve them, I try to improve myself,” Kompany said. “I could give you a deep answer, but it doesn’t really deserve it.”

The former Manchester City captain also shared his personal journey, using it as an example of overcoming obstacles.

“I was born in Brussels, my dad was a refugee from Congo. The odds of me playing in the Premier League or for the national team were almost zero. Now, I’m a coach,” he explained.

Kompany went on to dismiss the notion of letting criticism define success, urging persistence instead.

“Do you stop believing in yourself because of what people say? The mentality is to keep going. If you fail, you fail; if you succeed, you succeed,” he added.

On the challenges of public opinion, Kompany stressed the importance of not taking criticism personally.

“You can always find stuff online, so I don’t take it personally.”

“What am I supposed to do? Stop because of what others think? Let’s encourage people to succeed and break barriers,” he concluded.
