Diya's son reveals that Abacha died on the eve of his father's scheduled execution

Babatunde Diya, son of former Chief of Defence Staff, Oladipo Diya, has revealed that late military dictator, Sani Abacha, died on the eve of his father's scheduled execution. He shared this during an interview with PUNCH where he spoke about the life and times of his father. Oladipo Diya passed away at 79 years old on March 26, 2023, and had reportedly cheated death a couple of times. According to Babatunde, one of those times was when Abacha died on the eve of his father's planned execution. During the interview, Babatunde also spoke about his father's near-death experiences, including surviving a bomb explosion and the night before the Abacha regime was supposed to carry out his execution, Abacha passed away.
